Georgetown was the place where his passions for Diagnostic Imaging and Direct Access were born, and he has worked tirelessly to expand the PT scope of practice in these areas.

He was surrounded by passionate PT’s and working in a new, refreshing, and stimulating environment all the things he knew he was missing thus far in his career. Going to Georgetown University was the catalyst for the rest of his career. Ultimately, life began to push him in a direction where private practice was not sustainable and he began to look elsewhere. While this supplied him with lots of opportunities, there was a steep learning curve to establishing private practice and making it successful. At that point, he was fighting against what he felt were limitations working in a hospital-based clinic and wanted to have more autonomy over his clinical practice. The first was his decision to go into private practice. When asked to reflect on any defining moments that lead to a transition in his career path, Dr Keil pointed to a few things. Since 2014, Dr Keil has been calling the “Windy City” home, becoming the Director of Orthopedic Residency, Director of the Faculty Practice, and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then decided to mosey the 45 miles North to John Hopkins University where he continued his clinical work while also taking on a larger leadership role in their Orthopedic Residency program. From here, he moved across the country and away from the waves to our nation’s capital where he took a job at MedStar Georgetown University. His early work experiences included traveling PT, working registry, staff therapist at a larger OP Ortho clinic, and finally opening his own private practice that emphasized running rehabilitation. He graduated with his entry-level degree from California State University Long Beach and spent the first decade of his career working in San Diego, CA. Aaron Keil has been practicing Physical Therapy for 24 years throughout which he has worked as a clinician, educator, and administrator.
